Filmed on Thursday, December 5 2024, I drive around LeRoy, IL to see what's going on.
The town's name is derived from the French word "le roi" meaning "the king".
LeRoy was founded in 1835 by Asahel Gridley, who also founded nearby Lexington, Illinois and the town of Gridley, Illinois which is named for him.
Passenger train service to the town ended in 1957 and the last cargo train passed through LeRoy in 1980.
Today, LeRoy serves as a bedroom community for both Bloomington/Normal and Champaign/Urbana.
