Wolfsburg, located in Lower Saxony, Germany, was officially founded on July 1, 1938, as the "City of the KdF Car at Fallersleben" (Stadt des KdF-Wagens bei Fallersleben). This planned town was established to house workers for the newly built Volkswagen factory, which was created to produce the Volkswagen Beetle, originally known as the KdF-Wagen.
