An intellectually stimulating afternoon at the Centre for Critical Peace Studies (CCPS), University of Management and Technology, as part of our series “Books, Ideas & Coffee: From the Global South.”
The session featured Dr. Ahmad Waqas Waheed, Executive Director at Roads Initiative, who shared thought-provoking insights from his book “The Myth of Decolonization and the Global South: Mapping Coloniality through Pakistani International Relations.”
Dr. Waheed’s discussion delved deep into the hidden continuities of colonial power in knowledge production, highlighting how intellectual and cultural dependencies persist long after political independence. He eloquently questioned the dominance of Eurocentric paradigms and urged scholars to reimagine International Relations through local histories, epistemologies, and lived realities.
The session invited a powerful reflection on what it truly means to decolonize — not just politically, but intellectually and morally — by reclaiming our capacity to think, write, and produce knowledge from the Global South.
Such conversations reaffirm CCPS’s commitment to creating critical spaces where dialogue, scholarship, and reflection converge to challenge inherited assumptions and foster new ways of seeing the world.
