Supermarine Spitfire Ia AR213 superb sound while getting the coal on a Merlin engine test at IWM Duxford. Extra coal applied at around 1.55. While this was going on another Spitfire was taking off behind me. Excuse the wobbly camera, it's a Spitfire, I still get as excited seeing and hearing one as I did fifty years ago. That Rolls Royce Merlin, is there a better sound?
Spitfire Mk.Ia AR213 (G-AIST). Acquired by Group Captain Allen H. Wheeler on 25 October 1946. In 1968 it flew in the film Battle of Britain. In April 1989 it was acquired by Sheringham Aviation. In 2002 it underwent another restoration, repainted with 57 OTU colours, and coded "JZ-E". It starred in the 2017 film Dunkirk. Currently painted as XR-D P7308 based at the Imperial War Museum Duxford
