Damyang has the most suitable environment and geographical conditions for creating a bamboo forest in Korea. Among the southern regions, the Honam region is especially suitable for growing bamboo, and is a place where a lot of high-quality bamboo is produced. Bamboo products had already been made before the Joseon Dynasty, and bamboo shoots were presented to the king at the time, and bamboo products were also introduced to Manchuria and Japan. In addition, 9 bamboo craft masters (bamboo making tools, bamboo vessels, tea utensils, bamboo swords, brooches, tea baskets, bamboo pipe instruments, generation hats, charcoal crafts) have passed down folk crafts that combine traditional techniques with a modern sensibility, maintaining their position as artisans.

담양 죽제품의 우수성

담양은 우리나라에서 죽림조성에 가장 알맞는 환경과 지리적 조건을 갖추고 있는 곳으로 남부지방 중 호남지역, 특히 대나무가 성장하는데
가장 적합하여 질이 좋은 대나무가 많이 생산되는 곳이다.
이미 조선시대 이전부터 죽제품이 만들어졌고 당시 임금께 죽순이 진상 된 것을 비롯하여 만주, 일본 등에 죽제품이 소개되기도 하였다.
또한 9명의 대나무공예명인(죽제기, 합죽선, 차도구, 죽검, 브로치, 차 바 구니, 죽관 악기, 세대삿갓, 숯공예)이 전통기법에 현대감각을 살린 민속
공예를 전승, 장인의 자리를 지키고 있다
