Why Protestants Should Care About the Next Pope | Christianity, Catholic Church, and Global Faith

In today’s video, I break down why Protestants should seriously care about who the next Pope will be — even if we aren’t part of the Catholic Church.

This is bigger than just one denomination. It’s about the future of Christianity on the global stage, the health of our brothers and sisters in Christ, and the need for stability in an increasingly unstable world.

Here are the three main reasons Protestants should be paying attention:

1. The Pope Represents Christianity to the World
Like it or not, when world leaders, media outlets, and governments think of Christianity, they often think of the Pope first. From a global perspective, a strong, orthodox Christian leader helps protect religious freedoms, influence cultural conversations, and present a bold Christian witness on behalf of all believers. Protestants benefit when the Christian voice on the world stage is rooted in truth and strength.

2. The Pope Shepherds 1.3 Billion Christians
There are 1.3 billion Catholics worldwide — our brothers and sisters in Christ. Even if we differ on key theological points, Protestants recognize a shared foundation in the Gospel. We should want a strong, faithful, biblically-minded leader guiding them. A faithful Pope will encourage spiritual health not only within the Catholic Church but across the broader Christian family.

3. Tradition and Stability Are Needed More Than Ever
In an age of instability, shifting cultural values, and confusion within the Church, people are looking for firm foundations. The Catholic Church — with its long history, traditions, and public presence — can provide a sense of stability that even Protestants can appreciate. A strong, conservative Catholic Church can serve as a model of perseverance and tradition that Protestants can both learn from and benefit alongside.

As Protestants, we don’t have to agree with every Catholic teaching to recognize the importance of this moment.
We need strong Christian leadership — for the sake of global Christianity, for the good of our brothers and sisters in Christ, and for the future of the Church in a chaotic world.
