Wessel Krul, Professor of Cultural History at the University of Groningen, was the eighth guest of the Eventalks series on the 5th of September 2015. The initiative was organized by the Organisatie Oudemuziek, in close collaboration with the Centre for the Humanities at Utrecht University and the Residenties in Utrecht programme. The series of talks took place during the Early Music Festival 2015 at TivoliVredenburg. The Eventalks consisted of a short (15 minute) spoken intervention by a thinker, scholar or teacher, accompanied by music that strives to guide us, ever so gently, towards the coming of the darkness.
"We gaan naar concerten van oude muziek omdat we deze muziek mooi vinden, maar ook omdat zij oud is. De oude muziek houdt iets uit het verleden levend dat velen niet graag zouden missen. Voor de duur van het concert zijn we even in een andere wereld. Maar wat is dat verleden waarmee de muziek ons in contact brengt? Wat zien we op de haltes tijdens onze tijdreis?"
