この作品は、鉱物学的作曲法を用いて制作した二作目の楽曲である。
鉱物学的作曲法とは、鉱物の三つの定義──①天然に産し、②一定の化学組成を持ち、③結晶物質である──を音楽に変換する独自の作曲手法である。具体的には、②は鉱物の色や構成元素などに相当し、これを音の配列（縦軸）に置き換える。③は結晶構造に相当し、これを音楽の展開（時間軸）に対応させる。そして①は産地や産状、共生鉱物、あるいは不純物の存在などに相当し、聴き手に自然で人為的と感じさせない音楽的表現として落とし込む。

本作品《Epididymite–Eudidymite》は、重畳石（Epididymite）と斜重畳石（Eudidymite）という同質異像の関係にある二つの鉱物をモチーフとしている。両者の主な違いは結晶構造にあり、重畳石は直方晶系、斜重畳石は単斜晶系に属する。外観上の特徴としては結晶の終端形が異なり、重畳石は山なりの形状、斜重畳石はカッターナイフの刃のように片側が尖った形状を示す。これを音楽では、前者を山なりの音形、後者を上行（または下降）する音形によって表現した。

また、重畳石の和名が示す通り、この鉱物は結晶が幾層にも重なって形成されることが多い。その性質を、テンションノートを多用したジャズの和声や、複数の声部の重なりによって表現している。

Epididymite-Eudidymite (Na₂Be₂Si₆O₁₅･H₂O) (Catalog No. 131)

This work is the second composition created using the Mineralogical Composition Method. The Mineralogical Composition Method is an original compositional approach that translates the three definitions of a mineral—(1) naturally occurring, (2) possessing a definite chemical composition, and (3) being a crystalline substance—into musical structure. Specifically, item (2) corresponds to mineral colors and constituent elements, which are mapped onto pitch organization (vertical axis). Item (3) corresponds to crystal structure, which is translated into musical development over time (horizontal axis). Item (1) relates to locality, geological setting, associated minerals, or the presence of impurities, and is incorporated as musical expression intended to sound natural rather than artificial to the listener.

This piece, Epididymite–Eudidymite, is based on two minerals—Epididymite and Eudidymite—which are dimorphs sharing the same chemical composition. Their principal distinction lies in their crystal systems: Epididymite belongs to the orthorhombic system, while Eudidymite belongs to the monoclinic system. Externally, they also differ in crystal termination: Epididymite typically exhibits mountain-shaped terminations, whereas Eudidymite develops asymmetrical pointed ends, reminiscent of a utility knife blade. Musically, these are represented respectively through arch-shaped melodic contours and ascending or descending linear gestures.

Additionally, as suggested by the Japanese name 重畳石 (“layered stone”), crystals of this species often form through repeated stacking. This characteristic is expressed through dense jazz harmonies featuring tension notes and through overlapping contrapuntal textures.
