Woodturning - Kissed by Fire Bowl - Shou Sugi Ban burnt bowl

In this video I wood turn a bowl from a very wet log ( I think it is maple, but the dark center is throwing me off). I dry it in the microwave, then burn the outside of the bowl, think shou sugi ban, before finishing.
