Wythe is one of the most beautiful, historic neighborhoods in all of Hampton Roads. With construction dating back to the 1800s you'll find a neighborhood filled with character, and one unique home after another. The highlight of the neighborhood is Chesapeake Ave. This scenic road looks out over the Chesapeake Bay and is extremely popular among runners, walkers, and cyclists. Wythe gets it's name from George Wythe, one of America's Founding Fathers. Wythe lived from 1726 to 1806 and was one of the first seven signers of the Declaration of Independence. George Wythe was an accomplished attorney in Williamsburg, Virginia, as well as Williamsburg's mayor from 1768-1769. In addition to his many other accomplishments, he was a Delegate to the Continental Congress, Attorney General of Virginia, and teacher to Thomas Jefferson and John Marshall.

This beautiful community is comprised of approximately 2000 homes, a portion of which are referred to as Olde Wythe, which is now part of the historic registry. A neighborhood association was formed among these homes, at no cost to the home owners, in order to keep the historic feel of the neighborhood and provide for community events. The diversity of housing in Wythe may be it's most important characteristic. You can purchase a wide range of homes here, from 650 square foot bungalos, all the way up to 8000 square foot waterfront mansions. There's something for everyone in Wythe!

If you're transferring to Langley Air Force Base, or taking a new job at the Newport News Shipyard, then Wythe absolutely needs to be on your radar.
