Planting an aquarium INSIDE of an aquarium - Tankception

Here's a fun 8 gallon planted aquarium concept that we've been wanting to do for a while. Instead of our typical aquarium rocks and wood, we decided to plant two aquariums at the same time and use a smaller 1 gallon cube as the main "hardscape". It might seem weird and we might not be the first to do it, BUT we did it in hopes that the optical illusion that it creates would be fun. What do you think? Have we aquascaped it convincingly or do we need to wait until it grows out some more for the illusion to make sense? It features the following items:
