One day many years ago the North Sea broke through the dunes and paved a way land inwards. This create a natural canal towards the city of Bruges. The start of prosperity and change.
But every time the tide came in it also brought small rocks, minerals and other sediment which slowly made passage harder and harder. The force of nature gave and then took away the city's lifeline.
Perhaps the lack of economical strength after these events meant no great wave of gentrification. Allowing it to be transported as a time capsule. Bruges today a wonder to behold but the bustling of entrepreneurs seems to be replaced by the stampede of tourists. Not sure which is best.
But non of this can be changed so lets enjoy and behold this marvelous medieval place!
