Southern most tip of Canada | Point Pelee National Park | Leamington, Ontario | Canada

Southern most tip of Canada is in Point Pelee National Park, a national park in Essex County in southwestern Ontario, Canada where it extends into Lake Erie. Pont Pelee consists of a peninsula, mainly of marsh and woodland habitats that tapers to a sharp point as it extends into Lake Erie. That sharp point , famous as Point Pelee , is the southernmost tip of mainland Canada. Point Pelee was the first national park in Canada to be established for conservation.

We started from Toronto and covered about 400 km. before reaching the city of Windsor. Windsor city, seat of Essex County in Ontario, Canada is situated on south bank of Detroit River, opposite Detroit, Michigan in USA.

After an overnight stay in Windsor, we travelled to Point Pelee, 60 km. away the next morning. We straightaway headed for Visitors Centre of Point Pelee and waited for shuttle service for further travelling. After getting down from shuttle, we walked on sand for about a kilometre before reaching Point Pelee.

Point Pelee was a different world altogether, as if we were on a seashore. Strong sea breeze with its crackling unremitting noise, moderately high sea waves coming in quick succession one after the other, and water and more water on all sides (except one narrow stretch of land (called Point Pelee). One cannot be faulted for assuming that he was on shores of a mighty ocean. That is the beauty of Lake Erie, which stretches into USA .

The experience of spending some precious moments in these surrounding was totally unforgettable.

We kept talking about Point Pelee, even on our way back journey, such was the impact of what we saw there.
