2025.7.10 InNoVAtion Lunch and Learn - Building Resilience with the NoVA Flood Map

The Northern Virginia Transportation Authority’s (NVTA) Transportation Technology Strategic Plan (TTSP) includes nine roles that NVTA can undertake in proactively preparing for innovation. One of these is a role for staff to conduct outreach and education. With this in mind, NVTA staff are conducting a series of virtual InNoVAtion Lunch and Learns, designed to provide opportunities for pragmatic information exchange about technologies or innovations that are feasible immediately or in the near future (1-5 years.) We are joined by Nora Jackson, Resiliency Planner at the Northern Virginia Regional Commission (NVRC), for an interactive presentation on the NOVA Flood Map platform. Nora demonstrated how the tool was developed to improve flood awareness and emergency response by integrating real-time rain gauge data across the region. She also explored how to navigate the dashboard, view precipitation trends, and apply the platform’s features for post-event analysis and long-term network planning.
