I have been using a 10 metre long wire as my main shortwave antenna for a long time. I simply clip an exposed bit of the wire to the whip antennas of my radios. It works, but it is cumbersome.
I have a manufactured wire with a mono 3.5 mm plug that was supplied with one of my radios. So I decided to connect my long wire to this mono plug. This video shows you what I did. An easy DIY job and it worked very well. Now I no longer need to clip my long wire to the whip antennas, I can plug it in.
Remember never to use an outdoor long wire during thunderstorms, it's dangerous to you and your radios!
