Why is it a good idea to use valves on pressure measuring instruments? Quite simply: An instrumentation valve is installed between the process and the measuring instrument (e.g. pressure gauge, pressure sensor, pressure switch or process transmitter). Thus, the instrument can be quickly replaced or removed for calibration without interrupting the process. In addition, the measuring instrument can be drained via an instrumentation valve, or the pipe can be vented.
You will find the following instrumentation valves and combinations at WIKA:
✅ Stopcocks
✅ Needle valves
✅ Shut-off valves
✅ Block-and-bleed valves
✅ Valve manifolds
✅ Monoflanges
✅ Ball valves
✅ Instrument hook-ups
In Europe, DIN shut-off valves with a handwheel are widespread. Worldwide, needle valves are frequently used to separate the process from the measuring instruments.
Special versions like the block-and-bleed valve enable the measuring instrument to be vented even at high pressures. Valve manifolds have two pressure connections and are used to connect differential pressure measuring instruments. To establish an equalisation between the plus and minus sides, pressure compensating valves are used.
To enable space-saving installation, monoflanges are recommended. These primarily find their use in the process industry. This involves attaching the measuring instrument to the process by means of a flange connection.
Particularly with large pipe diameters, the application of a ball valve is recommendable. This way, the process can be sealed quickly and safely using a ball, and the valve is opened and closed by means of a cock.
When fugitive emissions need to be prevented, WIKA valves can be equipped with this special safety feature. This involves the valve being fitted with a sealing made of a special material and then being tested in accordance with applicable standards. These valves are identified by an orange ring.
