CaSDaR Townhall Launch event: Working with Other Data Stewardship Initiatives - Sonraì

This video is a talk from the Data Steward Initiatives session at the CaSDaR Townhall Launch event on the 18th September 2025, in person at the Library of Birmingham and online.

The presentation speaker was Jenny O’Neill from Sonraì.

Abstract: Sonraí (the Irish word for data) is the Irish Data Stewardship Network. Initially developed with support from the 2022 Open Research Fund call from Ireland’s National Open Research Forum (NORF), Sonraí has continued to evolve and develop. Our mission is to foster, enable and advocate for the development of research data stewardship and data stewards nationally. We have established network governance, developed our “Am I a data steward?” quiz, organised our first national conference and our first Masterclass. With support from the NORF 2025 Open Research Fund we are also developing a micro-credential in Data Stewardship, creating a model for how we develop discipline specific curricula and establishing a data champions program nationally.

Speaker Bio: Jenny is a Research Engagement Officer with HEAnet, Ireland’s National Research and Education Network and the EOSC Mandated Organisation for Ireland. In this role Jenny has developed relationships with the Irish research community, leveraging the HEAnet service portfolio and fostering innovative collaborations. Jenny previously worked as Data Manager with UCD Library where she was responsible for management and service delivery of Irish Social Science Data Archive (ISSDA) and she provided researchers in UCD with guidance, training and support in all aspects of research data management. Jenny been involved in various national initiatives, including membership of the National Open Research Forum (NORF) Working Group on enabling FAIR research data and contributed to the National Open Research Landscape Report. She is also a project partner of the Sonraí - Irish Data Stewardship Network, reflecting her commitment to advancing Open Research and promoting Data Stewardship practices.
