Test flying a newly built Avian Puma for a customer. The wind was going round to the South so by the time I was ready to launch it was quite cross wind on Treak Cliff. Normally it's easy to fly across from Treak onto the more South facing Mam Tor however on this occasion I left from low on Treak and got nailed by sink on the Mam Tor landslip. I then had to work very hard indeed to get up from almost the bottom of Mam. When you're test flying a new glider it's good idea to give yourself an easy flight. However if you're going to get into in a situation when you need to be scratching the hillside with your wingtip to get up then you want a glider with light, agile handling and an exceptional sink rate. In short, make sure it's a Puma! Also at the end of the video, footage of a Yorkshireman getting out his cheque book! He had just flown our factory demo and handed over the deposit on the spot. His Puma is now being made for him.
I'm working on building a next generation hang glider design, as well as producing a technical series of videos to describe how hang glider (and more general aircraft) design works. Please support his work through my Patreon page, here: / hgdev
