The Westminster government's Work and Pensions Secretary Liz Kendall insists that Britain's welfare system is broken and there is a moral duty to help get long-term sick and disabled people into work.
More controversially, she is expected to cut around six billion pounds from the benefits bill. It is a plan opposed inside and outside the Labour Party by those fearing it could push hundreds of thousands into poverty.
But a letter of support today came from the 'Get Britain Working Group' of Labour MPs, which includes Scottish MP Graeme Downie.
Mr Downie spoke to Scotland Tonight about his party's plans.
