Since the seventies of the previous century, in practically all Baroque music, we all play or sing the appogiatura (in French music called port de voix) on the beat. However, looking at 17th-century sources we find that especially the French treatises often advise to perform them before the beat. In this video the students of my class about historical performance practice (at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam) experiment with 17th-century ornamentation in contemporary French vocal chamber music.
