AASHTO T85 - Specific Gravity and Absorption of Coarse Aggregate

The following videos were put together by the CDOT Soils & Geotechnical Program to provide training and instruction to technicians who work with soils on CDOT projects. Those who intend to certify in CDOT's WAQTC Embankment & Base and In-Place Density modules, and the CDOT Excavation and Embankment Inspection module will benefit from these training videos. These videos were produced to provide substitution to the 8-hour training course we offered prior to COVID-19 restrictions, for those who wished to complete these certifications.

The videos provide demonstrations with step-by-step instruction of the soil testing procedures that technicians will need to be familiar with for these certifications. In addition, a PowerPoint presentation with audio is provided to present technicians with the material contained in our CDOT Excavation and Embankment Inspection Manual, and to prepare them for content that will show up on the written exam. As has been the case in the past, watching these videos is not a guarantee for an individual to pass the certification process. Additional individual study, hands-on training with the lab testing procedures, and familiarity with soils will provide additional benefit.
