As of the latest report on June 25, 2025, from the Roads and Bridges Department of the Government of Sikkim, all roads under the Gangtok Sub-Division are clear and open for traffic.The main route between Gangtok and Ranipool is operational.
While the primary route is currently open, travelers should be aware of potential issues that can arise. In March 2025, the NH-717A Pakyong-Ranipool road experienced temporary closures and restrictions due to significant hill-cutting work near Andhery and Lower Samsing. During that period, traffic was diverted, with separate alternative routes designated for heavy and light/medium vehicles.
Historically, sections of National Highway 10, a major thoroughfare in the region, have been known to be in poor condition, with a risk of landslides, particularly during the monsoon season. This can lead to slow traffic and potential delays.
