Determining “Prime” AI is rather subjective when assessing the entirety of his time as a 76er. Looking at the raw, surface level numbers, 2005-06 was his best season statistically. The 30 year-old led the NBA in minutes per game for the 5th time, averaged a career high 33.0 pts while also posting 7.4 ast, 3.2 reb and 1.9 stl a night. He shot nearly 45%, his highest since 1997-98; and over 32% on threes, highest since 2000-01. Despite Iverson’s remarkable production, Philadelphia missed the playoffs for the 2nd time since ‘98.
Establishing “Prime” Michael Redd on the other hand is quite easy. It’s fair to conclude that this 32 pt performance stands more or less directly amidst that period. Following his 2000-01 rookie campaign, Redd increased his scoring output each of the next 6 seasons. He posted 25.4 pts a night in 2005-06, and peaked at 26.7 pts in 2006-07. Prime Michael Redd was a flamethrower; a scoring machine. Not only was he dropping 25-26, but he was doing it at an efficient rate. From 2004-2007, he averaged 23.9 on an accumulative 45-37-86 (%). Shrinking that to accommodate his 2 best seasons (05-06 and 06-07), the compiled numbers spike 25.9 on 46-39-86. Like Penny Hardaway, Grant Hill, Tracy McGrady, and Brandon Roy, Redd faced multiple career hindering injuries in his late 20’s. Luckily, fans were able to get a glimpse of him at the top of his game.
