One of the drawbacks of using old tapes and re- recording them is that a large number of them are deteriorating. The binder is at fault. I've gone toward Maxell tapes that seem to have held out better, but do your own research- there are other brands that can be used safely. NEWLY manufactured tapes are outrageously expensive, and it's okay to use used ones.
