Mindful Horology is a practical philosophy.
This philosophy rests on three pillars:
• Watch Minimalism
• Horological Stoicism
• and Watch Mindfulness.
Over the next few episodes, we are going to explore each of these pillars together.
Let’s start with Minimalism!
When it comes to watches, minimalism is the intentional choice to live with only the watches we truly need and value.
It is a conscious move away from the pursuit of a watch collection and toward a life focused on one or a few purposeful watches, that contribute to our freedom instead of hurting it, and that can be part of our experiences instead of having to be sheltered or protected from them with watch cases, a safe, insurance etc.
Core Principles
• Intentional
Every watch we own is a deliberate choice that adds value to our life.
• Freedom from Possesions
It's not about deprivation, but about freeing ourselves from the desire to acquire more watches and the burden of managing a watch collection.
• Focus on the Essential
By removing the physical clutter of a watch collection and the mental clutter of chasing novelties and hype, we create space and time for one or a few truly important watches, but also for relationships, health and personal growth which are more meaningful than watches.
• Conscious Consumption
We strive to be more mindful about our watch purchases, opting for quality over quantity and considering the environmental, social, political and personal impact of our watches.
Next up, Stoicism & Mindfulness.
