This is a visit to Randell’s Island the home of the Hell Gate Bridge and Viaduct. This landmark is one of the most visible railroad sites in New York City. The rail viaduct and bridge carries Freight and Passenger trains from the Bronx to Queens and on to Long Island. The bridge and viaduct structure crosses the Bronx kill the sight of the former Little Hell gate and the Hell Gate connecting the East River and the Long Island Sound. The Bridge was built by the New Haven Railroad and Pennsylvania to bring their passenger trains to Penn Station and freight to Long Island and other parts of the City. It is still heavily used by Amtrak and the Providence and Worcester Railroad which has freight operation rights over the North East Corridor.
