📖 “And they repented not to give him glory.” – Revelation 16:9 (KJV)
In this morning devotion, we turn to Revelation 16, one of the most sobering chapters in Scripture. Here, the seven bowls of God’s wrath are poured out—not as sudden or unjust acts, but as the tragic result of grace persistently rejected.
Again and again, the chapter repeats a chilling phrase: “they repented not.” Despite unmistakable evidence of God’s power, authority, and mercy, hearts remain hardened. Revelation 16 reveals a truth we must not ignore: judgment does not fall because grace was absent—but because grace was refused.
Each plague exposes the true condition of the human heart. Pain intensifies, darkness spreads, and yet rebellion deepens. Instead of repentance, there is blasphemy. Instead of surrender, defiance. This chapter shows us that miracles alone do not produce repentance—only humility before God does.
At the center of this warning is a loving appeal. God does not delight in judgment. Revelation 16 stands as a final testimony that the Lord gave every opportunity to turn back. The bowls are poured out only after seals, trumpets, warnings, witnesses, and patience beyond measure.
For us today, this devotion is deeply personal. It calls us to examine our response to conviction. Do we soften our hearts when God speaks—or do we resist, excuse, delay, and harden ourselves little by little? Rejected grace always leads somewhere, and Revelation 16 shows us where that road ends.
This is not a chapter meant to terrify the repentant—it is written to awaken the undecided. Grace is still available now. Repentance is still possible today. But Revelation 16 warns us that a time comes when hearts are no longer willing to respond.
Choose repentance while mercy still speaks.
Key Takeaways:
Judgment follows rejected grace, not ignored mercy
Hard hearts can persist even under divine warning
Repentance is a choice, not a reaction to miracles
God’s patience precedes His justice
Today is the safest time to respond to God’s call
