The Udawalawe Dam, located in Sri Lanka's Southern Province, is a significant infrastructure project serving both irrigation and hydroelectric power generation purposes. Constructed across the Walawe River, the dam comprises an embankment and a gravity section, extending approximately 3.9 kilometers in length. It was commissioned in 1969 and houses the Udawalawe Power Station, operated by the Ceylon Electricity Board. The dam's reservoir, known as the Udawalawe Reservoir, has a total capacity of 267 million cubic meters and spans about 8.6 kilometers in length and 7 kilometers in width..
