Schumann wrote his "Spring" Symphony in the depths of a Leipzig winter. There's plenty of longing in the 2nd movement, for sure!
Schumann's was a distinctive voice in the western classical tradition, and his music made a deep impression on later generations of composers, Brahms and Mahler foremost among them.
The recording is by the Vienna Philharmonic, led by Leonard Bernstein.
