A day with Konda Reddy tribe to collect honey from the forest
Konda Reddy, a Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group (PVTG) of East Godavari district, earns their livelihood from honey collection from the forest. The entire family prefers to go for the honey collection. Some of them even eat the honey bees that stay back in the vax.
On a rainy day, the Village Van has sighted a Konda Reddy family involved in honey collection in the forest on the way to Kunavaram-Chintoor. Primary education is still a luxury for them as they accompany their family to the forest for the collection of minor forest produce and thus drop out from school. In many cases, the children do not enrol in the school.
A few hours spent with the honey collectors take us deep into their livelihood practice in the East Godavari agency.
