In this video, we investigate the cause of a failed fruit tree planted earlier this year at the Lyle Center for Regenerative Studies at Cal Poly Pomona.
We’re pleased to report that only one out of 140 plantings did not survive—an excellent success rate. Taking this as a learning opportunity, we demonstrate how to properly replace the tree and share best practices for planting to help ensure long-term success in your orchard or garden.
We also touch on the importance of whitewashing young trees—not only to prevent sunburn but also to deter insects and rodents, which can damage bark and potentially girdle the tree, shortening its lifespan.
