In this episode, we sail north along the western coast of Sardinia towards the famous Fornelli Passage. Our plan is to anchor in a stunning bay right next to La Pelosa Beach — with its turquoise waters, sandy seabed, and plenty of room for boats, it looked like the perfect spot. But as every sailor knows, things don’t always go according to plan. Just as we prepared to drop anchor… our windlass broke. 😬
With the model being nearly 20 years out of production, repairs and replacements aren’t straightforward. Add in the fact that this is high season in Sardinia — where marina prices skyrocket — and suddenly this little gear failure could set our entire season back in a big way.
Still, this is sailing: problem-solving, patience, and trying to laugh at the chaos while surrounded by some of the most beautiful water in the Mediterranean.
