THE 3200M CHALLENGE : Riding the Highest Gravel Trail of France

Earlier this summer, I travelled to Les 2 Alpes to take on one of the toughest gravel rides in the country: a climb all the way up to 3200 m of altitude, starting from Bourg d’Oisans. That’s 3100 m of elevation gain, loose gravel, technical switchbacks, and a brutal mental battle to the top.

If you’re into gravel riding, big mountain challenges, or just want to see what it takes to reach the highest gravel trail in France, this ride is for you.

More info about the ride: you can also start from Les 2 Alpes, cutting the elevation gain nearly in half. Regarding the best time of the year to take on this challenge, you can access up to 2600 m usually from mid-June, but the full ascent is very dependent on high-altitude snow conditions. Weekends from mid-July tend to be best, with August being the most reliable period.
