A deep, Dilla-inspired jazz groove built in real time. Gravitic Dissonance features live saxophone, ambient guitar, bass, drums, and electronics in a hypnotic improvised performance.
The piece began with a dark, diminished saxophone idea from Joseph Dowdy, which the band immediately locked into, unfolding into a deep, head-nodding, Dilla-inspired groove. Jonathan Greene (drums) and John Daniel Ray (bass, synths, electronics) held the pulse steady while Melchi (keys) and guest Kevin Beck (guitar) layered ambient textures and harmonic gravity around the core rhythm.
This session was filmed and livestreamed by Daniel Fox Johnston of Stillframe Storytelling, whose lighting, fog, and visual design helped shape the atmosphere both in the room and on camera.
