How to plant a shrub in your garden | The RHS

Join RHS Horticulturist Jack Aldridge in this informative video as he demonstrates the step-by-step process of planting a shrub. Discover expert advice on selecting the right location, preparing the soil, and caring for your shrub to ensure it flourishes in your garden.

Most shrubs are best planted from autumn to spring as bareroot or grown in containers, if the ground isn’t soggy or frozen. But November and March is best for evergreens as the soil is warmer to encourage quicker establishment of the roots. Container grown shrubs can also be planted at all times of year but will need more aftercare. It’s best to avoid planting in hot or dry weather.
