Hvar Town Local Waterfront Vibe: Meet Eywa, Tourists Welcome, Open 12 Months

I get asked questions about Hvar Town a lot - where is the best place to hang out? Where is the local vibe? Hvar Town is one of Croatia's top destinations, and you can dine in the elite riva, the main square, or the back streets in the town - all offer interesting options.

But for a truly local vibe, with prices reflected in attracting local clientele, with a fabulous waterfront view, I always head a few minutes past the main drag to Eywa Hvar - Restaurant & Bar, a true local hangout, open all year unlike most places in the town, and with the best restaurateur philosphy I have come across anywhere.

Owner Igor Kolumbić and I used to be big rivals 14 years ago, as we both started portals about the island at the same time and were competing for the breaking news from the kindergarten in Brusje, for example, as I started the Total Project all those years ago. Now he is one of my best friends in the town.

He doesn't need to earn enough for an apartment each year, but just enough to get by for him and his family, while creating a truly great space for locals (and expats and tourists) 12 months a year.
