An oversized convey was used to transport two major components of a new evaporator vessel from Pioneer Mill, where they were made, to Kalamia Mill where they were being installed.
The big move took place before dawn on 5 December 2023.
The bottom cone and lower body of the evaporator vessel were manufactured in-house at Wilmar Sugar and Renewables' Burdekin Centralised Workshop, located at Pioneer Mill. The move to Kalamia Mill covered 16km.
This is the last of four new evaporators being installed at Kalamia Mill, as part of a three-year, $25M capital replacement program.
The first new evaporator was installed at the Burdekin sugar factory in 2022, two more went in last year, and the last one is being installed ahead of the 2024 sugar production season.
