In this video, we walk you through the entire workflow of the Formlabs Fuse 1+ 30W, from slicing and packing the build volume to printing, depowdering, blasting, and finishing the final part - in First Person View. Whether you’re an SLS veteran or new to powder-based 3D printing, this video will show you just how efficient and powerful the Fuse 1+ 30W truly is.
Want to get your hands on one? We’ve got the entire Formlabs lineup available now at VisionMiner.com – plus expert support to help you optimize your prints and get ROI as fast as possible!
What You’ll Learn in This Video:
How to properly slice & pack your build volume for maximum efficiency.
Step-by-step setup & calibration before starting your print.
Print time breakdown – from pre-print setup to cooling.
Depowdering, blasting, and final polishing for a perfect finish.
Real-time look at the finished parts – including a functional torture test!
Step 1: Slicing & Packing Your Print Job
Formlabs’ PreForm software makes it easy to optimize your build volume.
Automatic part orientation & packing for minimal powder waste.
One-click model repair with Autodesk Fusion integration.
Print job labels to keep track of production batches.
Print time & powder consumption estimates before you even start.
Step 2: Printing on the Fuse 1+ 30W
Once the print job is sliced, we send it to the Formlabs Fuse 1+ 30W – an industrial-grade SLS printer capable of handling Nylon 12, Carbon Fiber, and other high-performance powders.
Print time: ~12 hours (including cooldown).
No support material needed! Powder itself acts as support, allowing complex geometries.
Self-mixing powder system ensures zero material waste at 30% packing density.
Step 3: Depowdering & Post-Processing
Here’s where SLS really shines – we move the build chamber to the Formlabs Fuse Sift, an all-in-one depowdering and powder recovery station.
Automated powder removal – no more digging through powder cakes!
Integrated vacuum system keeps everything clean.
Powder recycling system minimizes waste, allowing consistent material reuse.
Step 4: Blasting & Finishing for a Polished Look
Once depowdered, parts go into the Formlabs Fuse Blast, an automated sandblasting and polishing station that gives prints a smooth, matte finish.
Standard blasting removes excess powder residue.
Polishing mode enhances surface quality – making parts look injection-molded.
Final Print Showcase – Was It Worth It?
The results speak for themselves! We tested multiple complex prints, including:
NASA fabric prototypes – ultra-flexible, printed with no support.
Brembo brake rotor & calipers – fully assembled, straight from the print.
Ball-and-socket joints – printed in place with functional movement.
A fully working SLS Rubik’s Cube – printed as separate pieces and assembled!
Is SLS 3D Printing Right for You?
SLS technology is perfect for engineering, automotive, aerospace, medical, and manufacturing applications where strength, accuracy, and design freedom matter.
