JR相模線前面展望 茅ヶ崎→海老名 ＜Cabview Japanrail JR Sagami Line Chigasaki → Ebia＞

The JR Sagami Line runs north to south through the center of Kanagawa Prefecture, adjacent to the southwest of Tokyo. It was originally built to transport gravel collected from the Sagami River that flows nearby. After the collection of gravel from the riverbed was prohibited for environmental protection reasons, it lost its original role and became an ordinary local line transporting people along the line. However, since this line does not directly connect to Tokyo, modern improvements were delayed, and the line was electrified in March 1991, which is unusually late for a line in the Tokyo suburbs.

Nevertheless, in recent years, the number of houses along the line has increased, and the idyllic scenery of the past has disappeared. Only a few traces of the past remain in the sharp curves that remain here and there.

In this video, we filmed from Chigasaki Station, the southern terminal of the Sagami Line that also connects to the Tokaido Main Line, to Ebina Station, located almost in the center of the line. The journey takes about 30 minutes. I plan to upload a cab view of the area north of Ebina Station next time. Photo taken in July 2025
