It's the song that kicked off Beatlemania in the USA, it being the first song they performed on The Ed Sullivan show on Feb 9, 1964. But it was recorded on July 30, 1963 for their second LP With The Beatles

The backing track featured George Harrison on his Ramirez Classical Guitar (strummed with a pick), John Lennon playing his 1962 Gibson J-160e acoustic/electric plugged into a Vox AC-30, Paul on bass and Ringo on drums

The guitar solo was performed as an overdub by George afterwards, most likely on his 1962 Gibson J-160e, also plugged into the AC-30

I was once of the popular shared opinion that George performed the solo on his Gretsch Country Gentleman and John played the rhythm part on his Rickenbacker 325 electric. This would make sense, given that these are the instruments they used on the Ed Sullivan performance. But I was persuaded that both of these electric parts were recorded with John and George's J-160's after our podcast episode. The tones are very woody, unlike the quacky and bright Gretsch/Rickenbackers

I'm using my 1966 Gibson J-160e, knobs at 10 plugged into my Vox AC-30 amp. The amp is being mic'd with my Neumann TLM-103 condenser mic, dead center in between the two speakers like the technique they used back then at Abbey Road

For George's classical guitar, I'm using my inexpensive but effective Admira Irene spanish guitar. I always use Fender Heavy picks for all of my videos

INTERESTING NOTES:
0:02 John makes a slight pause in between chord transitions, just for these first two chords
0:03 George hits a high G-sharp note while playing B: X24444
0:10 George plays D normally XX0232, while John uses the 'banjo' shape XX4232
0:36 George alternates between choppy upstrums, and downbeat loose swing strumming throughout the song's verses
0:52 George starts the chorus loose and swingy, but almost immediately switches to choppy ups
1:01 George's overdubbed solo enters. The classical plays an A7 X02020
1:08 John plays a B7 chord here, while the classical plays F-sharp minor
1:16 This is the only other instance where John takes a significant pause between chords (other than the beginning of the song)
1:52 John slides up, using his E banjo shape (XX6454) to the high C-sharp minor (XXX999)
2:03 The classical ends the song with a glissando strum. In the album mix, this is where you can best hear George's classical
