Oluseyi Olufemi, Country Director at Dataphyte, presented the Dataphyte Foreign Influence Index (DFII) at the CITW 2024 Open Sessions.
In this presentation, Olufemi introduces DFII, a groundbreaking tool that measures not only the balance but also the benignity of foreign influence in Nigeria and other countries by the five permanent members of the UN Security Council (China, US, UK, France, and Russia).
Unlike existing indexes that focus mainly on US-China competition or narrow measures of China in Africa, DFII bridges this research gap by evaluating how these global powers shape Nigeria across four dimensions: economy, diplomacy, culture, and defense.
Importantly, it also assesses whether such influence strengthens or undermines sovereignty, democratic norms, governance, and human rights.
