Micheal Ray Richardson runs the New Jersey Nets offense, good for 23 points, 10 assists and 4 steals against the Dallas Mavericks, a year before his NBA career would be taken from him. Richardson was one of the most talented guards in the league the moment he stepped onto the court for the Knicks, but struggled with drug addiction, and with his 3rd failed drug test, David Stern gave him the boot. Richardson would be reinstated, but would continue playing professionally outside of the NBA until 2002, which is remarkable.
Micheal Ray Richardson used Chris Mullin's very public battle with alcoholism as an arguing point that he should be allowed to be in the NBA, as Mullin was never suspended for his addiction issues.
