Hundreds of Russian-speaking Latvian residents could face deportation if they fail mandatory Latvian language tests.
All non-citizens have been told to pass Latvian language tests or be expelled from the country back to Russia
But in a nation where a quarter of the population is Russian-speaking, and where many have lived their entire lives, the policy is hitting elderly and long-standing residents the hardest.
Is this a necessary step for Latvia’s national security or a policy that goes too far?
