Want to run a crypto exchange, wallet, or custodian in the EU in 2025? You NEED a CASP license under MiCA!
Here’s a quick breakdown:
✅ Who is a CASP? Anyone offering custody, trading platforms, exchange (crypto↔fiat or crypto↔crypto), order execution, etc.
✅ Capital requirements: €50k–€150k depending on services
✅ Apply to your chosen NCA (BaFin, AMF, etc.) → 3–6 months review
✅ Get approved → passport to all 27 EU countries!
✅ Must-haves: strong AML, governance, IT security, segregated client assets, liability for losses
Legacy firms: Grandfathering until 1 July 2026 (or shorter in some states) — don’t sleep on it!
Exchanges → transparent order books
Custodians → cold storage + segregation
Wallets → full user key control
