Pernem: Pernem Police have successfully cracked a major day house-breaking and theft case, arresting two accused and recovering stolen property worth ₹53.68 lakh, including gold ornaments, cash, laptops and tools used in the crime.

The case pertains to Crime No. 57/2025, registered at Pernem Police Station on 12 August 2025 under Sections 305 and 331(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), based on a complaint filed by Anil Kambli, a resident of Zorulem, Tuem–Pernem. The complainant reported that unknown persons broke open the lock of his house between 8 am and 12 noon and decamped with gold ornaments and cash worth approximately ₹8 lakh.

Following sustained technical surveillance and intelligence inputs, a special police team led by PI Nitin Halarnkar apprehended the accused on 26 December 2025. The arrested persons have been identified as Rohan Mahadev Padwal (29), a resident of Pernem, and his associate Jagannath alias Ketan Sanjay Bagkar (20).

During the investigation, police recovered large quantities of stolen gold ornaments from Muthoot Finance branches at Pernem and Dhargal, Bank of Baroda, Colvale, and from goldsmiths in Panaji and Mapusa. Further searches at the residence of the main accused led to the recovery of two laptops, additional gold ornaments, silver items and melted gold.

In total, police seized gold weighing over 250 grams, laptops, cash and other valuables, all collectively valued at ₹53,68,460. Authorities also attached two scooters, three mobile phones, and a DEWALT grinder cutter machine used during the commission of the crimes.

Investigations revealed that the accused are habitual offenders, involved in a series of day burglaries and house-breaking cases across Pernem, Dhargal, Virnoda, Tuem and Korgao areas since December 2024. The duo is linked to multiple cases registered at Pernem Police Station.

Both accused were produced before the JMFC, Pernem, and have been remanded to seven days of police custody. Further investigation is ongoing under PSI Praveen Simepurshkar, under the supervision of PI Nitin Halarnkar, SPDO Pernem Salim Shaikh, and SP North Goa Harishchandra Madkaikar.
