As some of you may know, I've built a homemade, remote-controlled snowplow to easily clear snow from my driveway-all from the comfort of a remote control. This project started as a fun hobby in my garage, and it's actually my first major undertaking where I'm learning how to weld. Well, at least I'm trying to! Luckily, a lot can be fixed with an angle grinder and a flap disc afterward.

Throughout the process, I've uploaded videos and received a lot of interest in the project. It's been a blast not only building the snowplow but also making these videos. I've also gotten a ton of questions about how the machine works-everything from what batteries I'm using to what motor controller I've installed. Some common questions include: are the motors brushed or brushless, what RPM do they run at, and how exactly is everything wired?

In this video, I show you how the snowplow operates, and I also go trough the electronics I have used. How to manage radio controlling large dc motors is often the big question, building large RC machines with powerful electric motors. In the video I show you the simple wiring diagram I made for this setup. The motor controller I'm using is a Sabertooth 2x60A, which can be paired with a standard RX/TX setup, like what you'd find in RC cars or planes. I've also added a failsafe function that cuts the power to the motors if the radio signal is lost or if I flip a switch on the remote, acting as an emergency stop. This is essential because the machine weighs 100 kg (220 lbs) and could cause serious damage if it went rogue.

The batteries are standard car batteries, wired in series for a total of 24V and 62Ah.
