"The Night of the Hunter" is as much of a thriller as it is an expressionist fairytale. Hard to believe that this film was a flop at the time of its first release. Though I must admit that I, too, only came round the second time I saw it, until I realised what an unusual yet uniquely brilliant masterpiece it is.
