lIn Episode 81, I cover The Academy Is... song "About a girl" which was off one of my daughter's mix CDs back when she was in school. It's a catchy little tune and figured I could throw some distortion on top of it as well as play along to their music video.

The Academy Is... was an American rock band formed in Chicago, Illinois, in 2003. Here are some facts about the band:

Formation and Original Lineup: The Academy Is... was formed by lead vocalist William Beckett and guitarist Mike Carden, who were classmates and friends in high school. The original lineup also included guitarist AJ LaTrace, bassist Adam T. Siska, and drummer Michael DelPrincipe.

Band Name: The band's name "The Academy Is..." was derived from a quote in the movie "The Legend of Bagger Vance," where one character says, "The meaning of it all is that there is no meaning." The Academy Is... was chosen as a statement to leave the meaning open to interpretation.

Debut Album: Their debut album, released in 2005, was titled "Almost Here." It received positive reviews and helped establish the band's presence in the alternative rock and emo-pop scenes. The album featured popular songs like "Checkmarks," "Slow Down," and "The Phrase That Pays."

Chart Success: "Almost Here" peaked at number 7 on the Billboard Top Heatseekers chart and helped the band gain a dedicated fanbase. They followed up with their second studio album, "Santi," in 2007, which reached number 32 on the Billboard 200 chart.

Lineup Changes and Later Albums: Over the years, The Academy Is... experienced some lineup changes. Michael DelPrincipe left the band in 2004 and was replaced by Andy "The Butcher" Mrotek. Guitarist AJ LaTrace also left, and the band continued as a four-piece. Siska became a member of the band Destroy Rebuild Until God Shows (D.R.U.G.S.), and guitarist Mike Carden formed the band "Erik Chandler and the Mulberry Street Socialites."

Reunion Shows: In 2015, The Academy Is... announced a series of reunion shows to celebrate the 10th anniversary of their debut album, "Almost Here." They performed several shows across the United States, playing the album in its entirety.
