Join me as I share the process of creating a large-scale monotype using the 16x20" Gelli Plate from @gelliarts. I wasn't sure how it would turn out, especially because the Bristol paper I used was thinner and more absorbent than I expected. But, to my surprise, the artwork exceeded my expectations.

This video covers the step-by-step creation of the artwork, focusing on the reverse image painting technique. It was a challenging yet fulfilling process. Integrating the approach I usually take in my oil paintings with my printmaking techniques on this scale was particularly exciting. It felt like stepping into a new territory where my photographs could evolve into something more tangible and impactful.
The project brings together contrasting elements of my photography: a charming scene of people waiting outside a market in France and the opulent interiors of Versailles. The combination of these images, selected for their intriguing juxtaposition, serves as the foundation for this monotype. I was particularly drawn to the dynamic between the ordinary and the extraordinary, the everyday and the historically grand. By pairing these images, I explored color theory, focusing on the harmonious blend of soft greens and neon pink, to create a visual narrative that bridges two distinct worlds.
