Kvatāh, a compound newari drum, Nāykhī tight vertically in a Dāpha khī or Lālākhī (Bhaktapur language) is one of the oldest drums found in different ancient newar settlements. The earliest documentation of this drum can be seen in newar rāgāmālā, painted in the early 17th century, which was commissioned by king Jagajjotir Malla and sculptures in different temples. This drum is used for both solo, ritual, and processional performances by newars.
